70-200: Pros and Cons

What Tamron got right with this lens:

In short, this is one of the best lenses I’ve ever used. I liked it so much I sold my Nikkor 70-200 F/2.8.

Very well proportioned. Shorter than some competitors. Handles well.

Sharper than every other 70-200 on the market, across the frame.

Cheaper than its rivals.

Sturdy, weatherproof construction, with dust seal and non-telescoping construction.

Lens coatings control flare and internal reflections very well.

Completely removable lens collar which feels comfortable in the hand.

Excellent image stabiliser.

Short throw focus ring makes manual focusing very fast. AF is very quick.

Beautiful bokeh at any focal length.

Room for improvement.

Takes some time to adapt to placement of focus/ zoom rings coming from other marques.

No phase detection AF compatibility with teleconverters.

Tripod collar may stick over time.
