Day 133: A colourful send-off

Today was the funeral of my godmother, who died on Boxing Day. A colourful character in life, it was her wish that everyone was to wear bright colours. No black tie. The event was very much a celebration of her life, with her youngest daughter in particular giving a beautiful eulogy with just the right balance of respect and irreverent humour that we came to expect from Fiona herself. I’ll spare you the details of the toast that came later courtesy of one of her sons, but a few drinks left their owners via their noses!

It was a very emotional day, with tears and laughter in equal amounts. One of those odd occasions where you arrived very upset, and left feeling strangely like you’d had an enjoyable time nonetheless. Happily, that was an emotion shared by most of those who attended, including Fiona’s family, and we knew we’d done her proud.
