With today seeing a marked improvement in the weather, I ventured out to the local nature reserve again, to try to see how well the 18-270 would handle a close-up. Boy was I shocked! Bearing in mind that this is not taken with a macro lens; that no extension tubes or close-up dioptres were used, I’m blown away by the quality of image that the lens produced. It’s not going to replace my macro lens, but for a (frankly, tiny) lens with such an insane range, it’s encouraging to know that it can give results like this straight out of the box, for those occasions when I can’t carry everything around with me.
Nikon D300; Tamron 18-270mm @ 232mm; 400 ISO; f/11; 1/200 second. VC on.

Superb.
My only concern for you is maintaining the level that you have started this project with.
Well, if it was easy then it wouldn’t be as much fun
